Carol Ellen Redden Lynch's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Carol Ellen Redden Lynch, age 89 of Deadwood, South Dakota and also of Charleston, died in the comforting presence of family at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. A time of remembrance for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 3-5 PM at What's Cookin' Restaurant, 409 Seventh Street in Charleston. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to South Dakota Democracy in Action (SDDIA). Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Carol was born August 19, 1927 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late James Anthony and Alma Cornelia (Cheek) Redden. She married Edward William Lynch on June 7, 1952 and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1980. Carol is survived by her long time companion, James V. Zeman; her daughters, Jean Ellen Davis (Dart) of Hoquiam, Washington, Catherine Louise Silvester (Harry) of Victoria, British Columbia, Laurie Theresa Lynch of Astoria, Oregon, Amy Joanne Lynch (Doug Klarup) of Charleston, Illinois; four grandchildren, Heidi Elizabeth Daoud (Matthew) of Homer Glen, Illinois, Eric Edward Hendricksen of Portland, Oregon, Erin Jean Lynch-Klarup of Washington, D.C., Kyle Edward Klarup (Amy) of Eugene, Oregon; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Matthew Hendricksen Daoud and Leila Elizabeth Daoud, both of Homer Glen, Illinois; a brother, James Anthony Redden, Jr. (Joan) of Beaverton, Oregon; a sister, Alma Louise ""M'Lou"" Thompson of Portland, Oregon; cousin Patricia Ann Byatt Henton of Kirkland, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was predeceased by two sisters, Esther Louise Redden and Jean Marie Ratledge; and cousin William Jackson Byatt.Carol graduated from Springfield Classical High School and attained both her masters and bachelors degrees from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota. Carol was devoted to her chosen career as an English teacher in the Rapid City, South Dakota public schools. After retirement she worked additional years as an instructor at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Carol was an active member of Democracy in Action (DIA) in the western South Dakota area. She was passionate and hard working for the things she believed in including her liberal democratic ideals. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and was completely engaged with her daughters and their families. For nearly forty summers she has gathered her family and friends from across the country for a yearly reunion in Yachats, Oregon. Carol was not only the matriarch of her family but an inspiration. Her intellect, inward strength and courage, was accompanied by a thoughtful, kind and generous spirit. She will be dearly missed and always affectionately remembered by those who loved her most and knew her best - her family.
