Carleton Edgar Curran, Junior's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Carleton Edgar Curran, Junior died Sunday, November 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on November 12, 1923 to Carleton Edgar and Esther (Roberts) Curran. Mr. Curran attended the public schools of Madison and in the fall of 1941 he matriculated to the University of Wisconsin. After a three year hiatus for military service, mostly in the 104th Infantry Division during World War II, he received a B.A. in 1948, an M.A. in 1950, and a Ph.D. in 1956, all in Modern European History from that institution. In June of 1954, he married Nancy Elisabeth Riedel of Cudahy, who survives. In addition he is survived by two sons, David (Julie) of Charleston, Illinois and Thomas of Hibbing, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Cody) Cole and Andrew Curran; and three great-grandchildren, Damia, Dominick and Zachary Cole. Mr. Curran taught for ten years at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas and for twenty-eight years at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 2200 Western Avenue in Mattoon, Illinois on Saturday, November 21, 2015 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Kozuszek officiating. The family will be available for one hour prior to the memorial service for those wishing to personally offer their condolences. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Soup Stop, Lincolnland Hospice, or any charity of the donor's choice. A grave-site memorial service will be held at a later date in Forest Hills Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.
