Carl ""Ed"" Griffin's Obituary
GREENUP, IL - Carl "Ed" Griffin, age 57 of rural Greenup, IL, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 while at Casey Health Care and in the comforting presence of his loving family following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Memorial Services and Inurnment at Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield, IL will be at a later date. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter. Gifts may be left during the visitation or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Carl Edward Griffin was born October 15, 1958 in Charleston, IL to John R. and Betty (Leohr) Griffin. He was married to Elaine Dunckel and as a result of that marriage Ed became the proud father of two daughters, Eden Griffin and Emily Griffin, both of Strasburg, IL. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by his mother, Betty Griffin of Casey, IL; two brothers, Allen Griffin of rural Kansas, IL and Rusty Griffin of Ashmore, IL; a sister, Karen Finney and husband Scott of Westfield, IL; a nephew, Chase Griffin and two nieces, Brianna and Holly Griffin. Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd and Mildred Leohr and Howard and Lillie Griffin; his father, John R. Griffin; and a nephew, Derrick Allen Griffin. Ed was a 1976 graduate of Westfield High School. He was employed for 25 years with Trailmobile and for the past 13 years he has been employed in the maintenance department at United Graphics in Mattoon, IL. Ed was blessed with the talent, skill and knowledge of being able to fix anything. He understood electronics and how things worked and could build his own computer. His love for nature allowed him to enjoy being outdoors and each spring he looked forward to mushroom hunting with family and friends. He dearly loved his family and was especially proud of his daughters and their accomplishments as both furthered their education beyond high school. Ed's generosity was to be admired and he always placed others needs before his own. His many friends and his loving family will truly miss his sense of humor and his daily presence in their lives but will always hold dear their many treasured memories.Click to view Ed's memorial video.
