Brian Arthur Berggren's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Brian Arthur Berggren, age 59 of Charleston and formerly of Streamwood, IL, was blessed with the presence of his loving family at his side when he entered into his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 while at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 14, 2016 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Tom Farris officiating. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to a charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Brian was born September 11, 1956 in Chicago, IL to the late Lloyd and Joanne (Wolff) Berggren. He first met the love of his life, Debbie Stewart, on a blind date, and they were married March 3, 1979 in Broadway, North Carolina. Brian is survived by Debbie, his loving and devoted wife of 37 years; his daughter Lauren Babbs and her husband Corey of Ashmore, IL; two brothers and their families, Christopher Berggren, wife Dawn and daughter Samantha of Gilberts, IL, and Scott Berggren, wife Barbara, and their children, Rachel, Christa and Matthew of Streamwood, IL; and his feline friends, Sweet Emma and Bad Boy Jerry, who always enjoyed the attention they received. Brian is also survived by David and Rebecca Klotzbach, very dear and special friends, who were always there offering their loving support and assistance when it was so needed and appreciated. Brian was a graduate of Elgin High School and furthered his education at Elgin Community College. He honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1975 - 1979 and was stationed aboard the USS America. Following release from active duty he was a member of the Naval Reserves until 1981. Brian was employed by Dominick's Food Stores before accepting a position with Sam's Club in Bentonville, Arkansas, as a produce buyer. Brian enjoyed such hobbies as tennis, bowling, golf, and had a knack for being able to fix just about anything. He also enjoyed music and dancing, especially with daughter Lauren who was his favorite dance partner. Brian was most certainly a people person who had a zest for life. He was truly a gracious host as he loved opening up his home to family and friends, and his sense of humor always made it enjoyable to be in his presence. As a loving husband to Debbie and doting father to Lauren, Brian's devotion to his family was unquestionable - they were always his priority. The many warm and loving memories of this special man will forever by treasured by his family and friends.
