Beverley June Smock's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Beverley June Smock, age 72 of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Al Walters officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until Service time. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Beverley was born on July 29, 1940 in Charleston and was a daughter of the late Buel and Verna (Irby) Walters. She married Paul Smock in Cumberland County on August 25, 1961 and they shared forty-one years of friendship and marriage prior to his death in March of 2003. She is survived by four children, Laurie Smock of Charleston, Jerry Smock and wife Nancy of Redwood City, California, Danny Smock and wife Shelley and Penny Pierce and husband Tim, all of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Michael Smock, Melinda Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Jessica Smock, Anthony Smock, Jonathon Smock, Keith Smock and Tabitha Smock; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Nelson and Riley June Nelson; three brothers, Gary Walters and wife Florence of Cisco, Illinois, Charlie Walters and wife Rose of Ashmore, Illinois and Albert Walters and wife Kay of Mattoon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Beverley was employed at the Charleston Brown Shoe Company and for fifteen years prior to her retirement, she was employed in housekeeping as well as a cook for Hilltop Convalescent Care Center. Beverley enjoyed crocheting, watching mystery cop shows on television, was an avid reader and a die-hard sports fan, especially of Chicago Bears football and Chicago Bulls basketball. Because of her love for her family, Beverley's priority in life was to create a warm and loving home for them. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was happiest when they shared time together as a family.
