Betty R. Stanfield's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Betty Ruth Stanfield, age 87 of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Reverend Dr. Thomas Hawkins and Reverend Jan Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Betty was born October 9, 1925 in Coles County, Illinois one of three daughters born to the late Artie and Ollie (Ingram) Osborn. She married Owen E. Stanfield on October 25, 1947 and they have shared a loving partnership and friendship for the past sixty-five years She is survived by her husband Owen of Charleston; two children, Gary L. Stanfield and wife Teresa of Effingham, Illinois; Sandra J. Hanner and husband Larry of Paris, Illinois; two grandchildren, Christopher Stanfield and wife Holly of St. Charles, Missouri and Stephanie Stanfield of Effingham; three great-grandchildren, Blaine Kruger, Haven Stanfield and Olive Stanfield; two sisters, Ruby Conley and husband John of Casey, Illinois and Marie Lawler of Mattoon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Terry Owen Stanfield. Betty was a long- time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston and a member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary Paul McVey Post 1592. For twenty-eight years Betty was a floral designer for Lawyer-Richie Florist in Charleston and prior to working at the flower shop she was employed at the Mattoon Shoe Factory. Betty centered her life round her family making them her top priority. She had a knack for decorating and created a comfortable home for them that was filled with warmth and always made others feel welcome. Betty experienced many memorable camping trips and vacations with her family which fulfilled her love for camping and travel. She was a loving and attentive wife and mother and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and was supportive of their activities - especially by her attendance. Betty's kind and gentle spirit endeared her to many and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
