Betty L. Shafer's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Betty Lucille Shafer, age 84 of Charleston, entered into her Heavenly Home on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at while at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. A private inurnment will take place in Liberty Cemetery located southeast of Charleston in Hutton Township. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Charleston Bible Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Betty was born in 1932 on Christmas Day in Brocton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Kenneth William and Lucille (Kirkley) Rush. She married Roy Shafer on December 31, 1961 and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary prior to his death on September 6, 2012. She is survived by their devoted son, Chris Shafer of Charleston. Betty was also preceded by a brother, William "Bill" Rush. Betty was employed at Brown Shoe Company in Charleston. Betty and Roy's love for children was apparent as they opened their home and their hearts as foster parents. She was a member of the Charleston Bible Church where she loved working with the youth Sunday School program. She enjoyed hobbies such as knitting and crocheting, but her greatest joy came from creating a warm and loving home for her family. Betty's never ending smile accompanied by her kind and good-hearted nature was shared with everyone she met. Click to view Family Memorial Video.
