Bart W. Kastl's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Bart William Kastl, age 59 of Charleston and formerly of Mattoon, entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday, February 25, 2018 while at home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The Funeral Mass honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 320 North 21st Street in Mattoon with Father John Titus presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Gifts may be left at the visitation or funeral mass or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.Bart was born January 28, 1959 in Mattoon, Illinois a son of Richard and Virginia (Protz) Kastl. He married Donna (Lawyer) Edwards on September 5, 2003 in Charleston. He is survived by Donna, his loving and devoted wife of fourteen years; his mother, Virginia Kastl of Lerna, Illinois; four stepchildren, Max (Jenni) Edwards of Paris, Illinois, Amy (Al) Dixon of Humboldt, Illinois, Heather (Brian) Todd of Charleston and Jill (Bill) Parker of Dunlap, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, Blake (Corrie Drum) Edwards, Kayla (Chad) Lewis, Stephanie Shonkwiler, Davina (Michael Fitzpatrick) Schisler, Dalton, Martha and Dylan Todd, Conner and Kilee Edwards, and Sophia and Addison Parker; a niece who was like a granddaughter and held a special place in Bart's heart, Reve Kastl; two brothers, Bert (LeeAnn) Kastl of Mattoon and Brett Kastl of Lerna; a sister, Beth Kastl of Lerna; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Nathan and Grayson Lewis, Jude Edwards and Hayden Fitzpatrick; a nephew, Jarod Fonner; two nieces, Amanda Minquiz and Mindy Fonner; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Bart is also survived by his lovable and loyal canine companion - Dolly. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; several aunts and uncles and three great-grandchildren.Bart was a 1977 graduate of Mattoon High School and proud to be a Green Wave! As an adult resident of Charleston, he thoroughly enjoyed the rivalry between the two schools. He was employed by Moore Business Forms in Charleston until their closing and then returned to school, obtaining an Associate's Degree from Lake Land College where he made the Dean's List. He was currently employed as an electrician with JL Allen Services in Tuscola, Illinois. Bart was a member of the Mattoon Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1057, as well as IBEW Local #146 and the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388.Bart delighted in a good debate and any topic was on the table. He enjoyed an occasional poker game with his dad, brothers and uncles, was an avid golfer, fan of Chicago Bears football and a die-hard Chicago Cubs supporter. Most likely, the happiest day of his life (with the exception of his marriage to Donna) was the day his beloved Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series! Bart's devotion as a husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and friend earned him the love and respect of those whom he dearly loved and they will forever cherish their many wonderful memories. Organist, Barbara Konrad accompanied the Cantor, Julie Wilkerson in leading the congregational hymns which included ""Amazing Grace"". Other participants were Bill Parker and Gerry Protz, Lectors; Amy Dixon, Max Edwards, Bert Kastl, Beth Kastl, Brett Kastl, Donna Kastl, Virginia Kastl, Jill Parker and Heather Todd, Pall Attendants; Martha Todd, Kayla Lewis, Stephanie Shonkwiler and Reve Kastl, Gift Bearers. Burial followed in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Pallbearers were: Darrell Cox, Blake Edwards, Jarod Fonner, Bill Johnson, Joe Johnson, Randy Protz, Dalton Todd and Mike Weber; Honorary Pallbearers were Dylan Todd and Cason Vadakin.
