Barbee L. Sanders' Obituary
Barbee Lynn Sanders, 67, of Westfield, Illinois passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 15, 2024. She was born on May 14, 1957 to Howard Cheesman and Gloria (Barbee) Cheesman. On May 10, 1974 she married Ted B. Sanders (surviving). They shared a wonderful 50-year marriage. Their love and devotion to one another were shining examples of commitment and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories, laughter, and the joy of raising a family.
She is survived by her devoted children: Ted N. Sanders (Keisha) of Ottawa, Illinois; Jeremy Sanders (Bridget) of Charleston, Illinois; and Joe Sanders (Brenda) of Tolono, Illinois. Barbee was the proud grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren: Ayden, Aubrey, and Owen; Madeline and Magnus; Abigail, Naomi, and Isaiah.
She is sister to Michelle (Dan) Douglas, who survives, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Gloria Cheesman, and grandchildren Ethan and Elizabeth Sanders.
Barbee's heart was full of love for children, a passion that defined much of her life. She began her career as a secretary at Westfield Grade School before moving on to private daycare. With determination and perseverance, she earned her degree and became a teacher at Head Start in Charleston, where she spent many years nurturing young minds and hearts. Affectionately known as "Miss Barb," she left a lasting impression on the hundreds of children she cared for as if they were her own. Her warmth, patience, and love made her a beacon of light for the children and families she served.
Beyond her professional life, Barbee was a deeply devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She attended the Harrison Street Church of God. Her family was her greatest joy, and her home was always filled with love and laughter. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her quick wit, and the countless ways she enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Barbee's legacy is one of boundless love-love for her family, love for the children she guided, and love for the life she lived so fully. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to be part of her beautiful story.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, IL. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, September 23rd, 2024 with Pastor Chris Walters officiating at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield, Illinois.
