Barbara L. "Bobbie" Farris' Obituary
Barbara L. "Bobbie" Farris, 87, of Charleston, IL passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Barbara was born on February 17, 1937, to William Kimball and Beulah (McNary) Decker in Charleston, IL. She married Richard A. Farris on December 31, 1971, in Charleston, IL. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2019, after 47 years of marriage.
She is survived by two sons, Eric L. (Mickey Chapman) Smith of Knoxville, TN and Jason W. Smith of Charleston, IL; five grandchildren, Aaron L. (Stephanie) Smith, Madison T. Smith, Bekah Connell, Jessica Lovejoy, and Sarah Connell; one great-grandchild, Chloe O. Smith; and her cousins, Raymond McNary, and Donna (Carl) Wininger. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Farris and her parents, William Kimball and Beulah Decker.
Barbara grew up in Charleston and attended local schools. She worked as a cook at the Ranch House in Ashmore, IL, and later dedicated herself to caring for terminally ill elderly patients. Barbara deeply cherished her family and grandchildren, often cooking for them as a way to show her love. Her granddaughter, Mattie, was her best friend.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Liberty Cemetery in rural Charleston, IL.
