Athia L. Williams' Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Athia L. Williams, age 62 of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at her Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center residence. Her physical body will be cremated and a Memorial Service for family and friends to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the University Baptist Church located at 2831 Whitetail Drive in Charleston with Pastor Tim Boyce officiating. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to her family in care of Ernest or Lisa Williams. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Athia was born on July 1, 1951 in Greenville, North Carolina a daughter of the late Sylvester and Sally (Barnhill) Alexander. She is survived by two loving and devoted children, Lisa Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina and Ernest Williams of Charleston; a grandson, Andre Sellers of Killeen, Texas; and three brothers, Gary Dickens, William Hansley and Alton Hansley. Athia was a dedicated employee of Life Links serving the Mattoon and Charleston area. She was their residential director and had been a Life Links employee for more than 20 years. She was a woman of faith and a member of the University Baptist Church family in Charleston where she was actively involved in various programs and ministries. Her giving heart and spirit and desire to help others was a blessing to many - not only those she reached out to through her employment but to the many lives she touched through volunteering at the Charleston Civic Association or wherever she saw a need. Athia was an avid reader and enjoyed attending musicals and plays - one of her favorites was ""The Lion King"". She was extremely family-oriented and shared in the blessings of keeping hers near and dear to her heart. Athia will always be lovingly and fondly remembered by her family and many friends.
