Ann Rogers Chanley's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Ann Rogers Chanley, age 92 of Charleston, died on Friday, January 9, 2015 at her Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home residence. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Reverend Dr. Thomas Hawkins and Reverend Jan Hawkins officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral chapel for one hour prior to the services on Saturday. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to PBS Television, WILL or WEIU locally. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Ann was born on March 31, 1922 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the only child of the late Robert and Ethel (Strandall) Rogers. She became the bride of Jacob Chanley on July 27, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts and they celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to his death in August of 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Paula McNitt and her husband Andrew of Charleston; two granddaughters, Megan McNitt of Washington D.C. and Katherine McNitt Nadrchal and husband David of Alexandria, Virginia; and a son-in-law, David S. Weiss of Rochester, New York. Ann was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Weiss. Ann was blessed with an artistic ability and attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago to enhance her artistic skills. As an artist, painting portraits was her area of interest. She was a long time resident of New York City where she taught English as a second language from 1990 - 2006. As an avid reader she was always well informed regarding current events and was extremely involved in the Great Books Program offered through the local library.Click to view Ann's memorial video
