CHARLESTON, IL – Dorothy Louise Lanman of Charleston passed away in the comfort of her home at the age of 100 on Friday, May 4, 2018. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 2800 University Drive in Charleston. The funeral service, honoring and celebrating her life, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday with Pastor Chris Prater officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, Illinois. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to First Baptist Church or Lincolnland Hospice. Dorothy was born August 8, 1917 in Ashmore, Illinois, a daughter of William and Alberta (McDivitt) Stone. She married the love of her life, Robert F. Lanman on June 29, 1946 and they were blessed with 69 years of marriage prior to his death on April 4, 2016. She is survived by a devoted and loving daughter, Brenda Holmes of Springfield, Illinois; a granddaughter, Molly B. Holmes of Huntley, Illinois; a great-grandson, Hank Vanderholm; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Lanman, Neva Cutri and Imogene McClanahan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded by two sisters, Florence Weber and Pauline Stone; and a brother, Guerney Stone.
Dorothy was educated in Ashmore Township Schools, including Little Brick, Olmstead and Ashmore High School. She was employed at the Charleston Shoe Factory during WWII but most of her working years were devoted to assisting Bob with their Standard Oil Company business. Dorothy has been a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Charleston.
Dorothy’s inner grace and beauty was reflected in the way she lived her life and treated others. She was kind, sweet and gentle, always quick to forgive, and a blessing to many who will now treasure their many fond memories.

Funeral Service
The funeral service celebrating the life of Dorothy Lanman was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Charleston with Pastor Chris Prater officiating. Eulogies were given by her granddaughter, Molly Holmes and daughter, Brenda Holmes. Pianist, Marge Woodall provided prelude and postlude music and accompanied the congregational hymns of "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!" and Dorothy's favorite, "Silent Night". Burial followed in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Pallbearers were Robert Apple, Mike Lanman, Ted Weber, Dave Martin, Eric Lanman, Sean Lanman and Susan Frederick.
