Wayne was born February 15, 1935 in Ashmore Township, Coles County Illinois, a son of the late William D. and Thelma E. (Montgomery) Humphres. He married Marie Boyer on November 17, 1956 at the Kansas Methodist Church in Kansas, Illinois and they have shared 64 precious years of marriage. In addition to his wife Marie, Wayne is survived by five loving and devoted children, Wesley (Rhonda) Humphres of Ashmore, Illinois, Kevin (Julie) Humphres of Kansas, Illinois, Linda (David) Vineyard of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Donna Fasnacht of Kansas, Illinois and Clarice (Paul) Stephens of Ashmore, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Derek (Robin) Fasnacht, Dana (John) Penn, Anna (Skylar) Farris, Alysa Stephens, Megan (Lance) Moses, Caleb Humphres, Courtney Owenby, Hannah Vineyard; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary (Doug) Bauling of Urbana, Illinois and Betty (Ed) Kmoch of Champagin, Illinois. In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by his in-laws, Wilbur and Iris Tribby and Ray Boyer; and one step-granddaughter.
Wayne was a 1952 graduate of Kansas High School and a life-long member of the Ashmore United Presbyterian Church. He was a 64-year member of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge #390 A.F. & A.M. serving two terms as Worshipful Master (1964 and 1978) and the Lodge Secretary for many years. Wayne also served the Ashmore Chapter 670 Order of the Eastern Star as their Worthy Patron on numerous occasions.
Being a life-long farmer in the Ashmore area, Wayne treasured his role as caretaker of the land. Nothing pleased him more than watching a field being cultivated, witnessing the small green plants spring forth, and the harvested grain filling the bins. Minneapolis Molines were his tractors of choice and his fondness for them was not only seen through those he used on the farm but those in his toy tractor collection as well. Following his formal retirement Wayne continued to help on the farm until he was no longer able due to his health.
Sunday afternoons were usually devoted to family and might include motorcycling, horseback riding, and in later years, rides in his Kubota side by side. Wayne and Marie enjoyed many winters as Texas snowbirds, spending time in their park model trailer located there. Wayne enjoyed his grandchildren immensely and all looked forward to their 5th birthday as that came with their own special trip to Disney World – compliments of Grandpa and Grandma! He also enjoyed supporting them through his attendance at their many sporting and musical events.
Wayne was dearly loved by his family, was a dear friend to many and will truly be missed.
