They raised two loving sons, Greg Simpson (deceased) and Doug (Linda) Simpson of Charleston, Illinois; two granddaughters, Emily (Sam) Bixby of Charleston, Illinois, and Amelia (Aaron) Doerter of Wilmington, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Reya Kelly, Lincoln Greg, Case Douglas, Georgia Blue, and Stevie Jo due to arrive March 2022; special sister-in-law, Sandy Severe; special nieces, Kay Amyx, Carol Gerl, and Cheryl Carpenter; and several great nieces and nephews. Joan retired from the Coles County Court House- Supervisor Assessment Office where she worked as a secretary for many years. She was a member of Community Church in Charleston and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a proud supporter of Charleston Cemetery Association, Indian Tribes, Disabled Veterans, and local police/fire departments. She would also support the Veterans and was passionate about attending the Veteran Memorial Services throughout the years. In her early married years, square dancing was a frequent activity shared by her and Bob. She loved journaling, scrapbooking, going on car rides, and taking care of the squirrels and birds. She had a love for her family and friends and wouldn’t miss a game night, kids or grandkids activities, or her class reunions. Most importantly her family was always her number one and she will be greatly missed by all of them.
