CHARLESTON, IL – Robert A. Stoner, age 95 of Charleston, Illinois, entered his Heavenly Home on Friday, February 12, 2021 while in the comforting presence of his loving family. The Funeral Service, honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Reverend Irvin Figgins officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Charitable contributions in his honor may be made to the Charleston Food Pantry and left at the service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, Illinois 61920.
Robert, affectionately known to many as “Stony”, was born November 17, 1925 in Charleston, Illinois, a son of the late Lewis and Leola (Shaffer) Stoner. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Seibert on December 19, 1945 and they have been blessed with an enduring love and 75 years of marriage. In addition to his devoted wife Betty, he is survived by four children, Paula Dennis of Haines City, Florida, Susan Payne (Jerry) of Charleston, Robert Stoner (Johann Merkader) of Costa Rica, and Jody Thompson (Tim) of Quincy, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Bernadine Johnson; a daughter, Sarah Lee Stoner; a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Terrell; a son-in-law, Richard Dennis; and a sister, Ruth Stoner.
Robert was a Charleston High School graduate and a WWII Navy Veteran who honorably served his country from 1944 – 1946. He was employed with Eastern Illinois University for 42 years and retired as foreman of the Physical Plant. Robert was a man of faith and attended the former Otterbein United Methodist Church with his family. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and an occasional afternoon on the golf course. He will always be lovingly remembered.
