CHARLESTON, IL – Philip Ray Jones, age 82, of Charleston, was at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, June 27, 2020, when he entered life eternal in his Heavenly Home. A private celebration of Phil’s life, attended by his family, will be held at Roselawn Cemetery with Pastor Steven Stern officiating. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to Walnut Grove Christian Church in lieu of flowers, and may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Phil was born in Charleston, Illinois on September 8, 1937 to the late Harry and Lorene (McMillen) Jones. He had one sister, Ruth Jenkins who preceded him in death. Phil and Willetta Pierce were married August 13, 1960 in Charleston at East Harrison Street Church of God. He is survived by Willetta, his loving wife of nearly 60 years; three children, Teresa Jones of Charleston, Jeff Jones and wife Amy, also of Charleston; and Kim Ritchhart of Alpharetta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Jamie (Cord) Hackett, Heidi (Andy) Uphoff, Dakota (Allie) Jones, Spencer Jones, and Casey (Mitch) Niekamp; two great-grandchildren, Clara Ruby and Evan Philip, and a third, Oliver Levi due to arrive in September.
Phil was a life-long member of Walnut Grove Christian Church, the same church where he worshipped with his family as a boy growing up. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and served his country as a U.S. Army veteran. Phil enjoyed farming and devoted his life to being a responsible steward of the land. His interests outside of farming included antique tractors and cars and Cushman scooters, watching sunrises and sunsets, and spending time with his family. Phil will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
