Peggy Jack Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Peggy Jo Jack, 87, of Charleston, Illinois passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Adams Funeral Chapel. Burial with a graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 25, 2022 at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Charleston VFW and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Peg was born July 29, 1934, in Charleston, Illinois the daughter of William Otis “Foxy” and Eunice Marie (Prince) Bennett. She married the love of her life Richard A. Jack on September 18, 1955, in Charleston, Illinois. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Tracie (Jeff) Trubey; son, Rick (Mary) Jack; two grandchildren, Devin Trubey, and Bryan Jack. she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William “Bill” Bennett; and two sisters, Emily Ashby, and Judy Cowan.

Peg and Richard were married 66 wonderful years. Richard was stationed in Germany with the Army. Peggy went with him to work in the local orphanages and travel Europe. When they made it back to Charleston. She went on to work for Eastern Illinois University and the Charleston School District Food Service as a cook. She enjoyed her free time Knitting, crocheting, playing bridge and bingo, and fishing.

Peg was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she was a teacher for Children’s Church. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader. She also was involved in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Charleston Moose, Charleston High School Booster Club, and the Charleston Jaycees with Richard. From 1986 to 1996 the couple ran the South Coles County Fair Gate. The fair is where people from all over came to know and love Peggy.  

At the age of 16 Peggy began working while also finishing her education. the couple built their own home at 520 Ashby Drive in Charleston, Illinois. Residing there for 57 years. She made the house and yard a haven for her children’s friends. Peggy and Richard were avid travelers to Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, California, and on Alaskan cruises. These adventures led to trips to casinos and racetracks with their son. Peg was a devoted mother who rearranged her work schedules to see her children in their activities and was the aunt that always spent time at the kids table playing games.
