Norma Brown Obituary

DECATUR, IL – Norma Carolyn Brown, age 93, of Decatur and formerly of Charleston, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her Lincolnshire Place home on Friday October 2, 2020.  Her graveside service, honoring and celebrating her life, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Pastor Sam Carr officiating.  Memorial gifts in her honor may be designated to the Decatur Central Christian Church and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Norma was born October 27, 1926 in Charleston, Illinois one of five children born to John Andrew and Hazel (Shellabarger) Myers.  She grew up in the Charleston area with her three sisters, Marian (Myers) Stark, Madonna (Myers) McLain, Martha (Myers) Kinsler and her brother, Raymond E. Myers.  Norma married Charlie Brown on December 19, 1951in Atlanta, Georgia and they celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to his death on January 30, 2018.  She was also preceded by their son, Charles Fredrick Brown.  She leaves her grandson, Matthew Charles Brown and wife Kimberly of Oakley, Illinois, and great-grandson, James Brown.

Norma was a woman of faith and has been a member of the Central Christian Church family in Decatur for nearly 50 years.   Her determined attitude and strong-willed personality were character traits recognized by her family and friends.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed making her house a home and was devoted to a family she dearly loved.   She was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews who knew they could depend on Aunt Norma for assistance when asked.  Norma loved the Winter season accompanied by snowy days, and the familiar tunes of the songbirds with the onset of Spring.  She will dearly be missed by those who loved her most.
