Margaret Craig Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Margaret Louise Craig, age 96 of Charleston, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 7, 2021.  Through the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois, Margaret graciously gifted her body for the educational benefit of future healthcare and medical science professionals.  No public services will be held and charitable contributions in her honor may be made to the Charleston Masonic Lodge Food Bank and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Margaret was born November 17, 1924 in the small town of Dowell, Illinois, a daughter of the late Simpson and Irene (Holmes) Bishop.  She graduated from Elkville High School and then married Francis Craig (now deceased) on June 21, 1943 in St. Charles, Missouri.  She is survived by her four children all of Charleston, Jeffrey A. Craig and wife Jodi, Vicki Huddleston and husband Alan, Dennis Craig and Cindy Craig; four grandchildren, Carrie (John) Easter of Charleston, Cassi (Bobby) Carpenter of Charleston, Tony (Tammy) Craig of Charleston and Andy (Lisa) Craig of Papillion, Nebraska; five great-grandchildren, Dru Howell, Vinny Craig, Catie Craig, Ben Craig and Syd Carpenter; along with several nieces and nephews.  Margaret was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bishop; and two sisters, Virginia Gartner and Isabelle Cobin.

Margaret devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed rummage sales, painting, and playing cards and board games with her loved ones.  She also looked forward to an occasional evening at the Charleston VFW with family and friends, listening and dancing to the music provided by her favorite “Sawyer Brothers” band.  Margaret was a classy lady who was always fashionably dressed complete with accessories.  Margaret’s family was blessed with her love that was freely given to all.  She will be dearly missed but always remembered and deeply appreciated for her endless love and devotion.
