Lila M. (Newby) Shafer

Lila M. Shafer, 87, of Charleston, Illinois went to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Paris Heath & Rehabilitation Center in Paris, Illinois. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Mound Cemetery in Charleston, IL. Memorials in her honor may be made to Lincoln Land Hospice (Hospice House) and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Lila was born on January 9, 1935, in Charleston, IL the daughter of Clifford Wiley and Viola Mae (Cutler) Newby. She married Charles “Bud” Shafer on October 18, 1952, in Corinth, Mississippi and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2016. She is survived by her two sons, Randy (Patty Higginbotham) Shafer, and Jeff Shafer; three grandchildren, Jon (Natalie) Shafer, Mitch (Stephanie) Shafer, and Whitney (Kyle Triestram) Shafer; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Shafer, McKenzie Shafer, and Kennedy Shafer; and step grandchildren,  Brittany Rhodes, Jessica Key, Betsy Wochner, and Cody Adams; eight step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; son, Mike Shafer, and step great-grandson, Boe Adams.

Lila graduated from Charleston High School. She was a member of Bushton Christian Church in Bushton, Illinois. Lila was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and taking care of her home. She loved to garden, help her husband around the farm, and cherished her time with grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
