CHARLESTON, IL – John Sylvester Blevins, age 52, of Charleston and formerly of Oneida, Tennessee went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. His family will host private services to be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
John was born July 16, 1967 in Oneida, Tennessee, the son of Andrew and Joyce Ann (Wallace) Blevins. He married Rebecca (Lunsford) on February 14, 2018. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rebecca of Charleston; a son, Jonathan Blevins of Tucson, Arizona; two daughters, Crystal Blevins, also of Tucson and Hannah Blevins of Germany; four grandchildren; two stepsons, Mikel Staudinger and John Staudinger, both of Charleston; his dear friend Richard who John loved as a brother; and several extended family including half-siblings and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doug Blevins and a sister, Angela Campbell.
John was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving as a signalman and in law enforcement. He continued his career in law enforcement serving with the Charleston Police Department for 17 years. He was currently a driver with CCSR in Charleston.
John loved people from all walks of life. As a police officer he embodied the meaning of “protect and serve”. He was kind and giving and always placed the needs of others before his own. John could be described as an “old soul”. He enjoyed listening to Elvis who happened to be his favorite recording artist and was content playing with his dogs. He was a good husband and was a father who loved his children dearly. John will be missed by all.
