CHARLESTON, IL – Jerry L. Rardin, age 77 of Charleston, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Eastview Terrace in Sullivan, Illinois. A graveside service, honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Mound Cemetery in Charleston with Pastor Matt Philbrick officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Jerry was born November 28, 1943 in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late William B. and Vera Irene (Kissell) Rardin. He married Sherry Leigh Shoot on May 25, 1963 and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2016. He later married Judith Walker on September 20, 2017 and she survives. In addition to his loving wife Judith and her family, he is survived by a daughter, Melody Jean Moore and husband Jack of Mattoon, Illinois; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, James S. Rardin and wife Peggy of Charleston and a sister, Sharon Balch and husband Joe of Lerna, Illinois. In addition to his parents and first wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, David R. Rardin.
Jerry was a graduate of Charleston High School and was employed in maintenance with the Celotex Company. He was not afraid of a hard day’s work and enjoyed auto repair including the bodywork. When not working he enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, fishing, hunting, or going to flea markets searching for items to add to one of his many collections of marbles, coins, guns, and hammers. He was a loving husband and will be dearly missed by Judy and other family members and friends.
