Jeanne was born May 31, 1924 in Charleston, Illinois, the only daughter of Tony and Blanche (Dunaway) Johns. She married Willford Hargis and he preceded her in death in 1976. She later married James Martin who also preceded her. She is survived by her and Willford’s three sons: Willford Hargis of Ashmore, Illinois, Steve Hargis and wife Goldie of Arcola, Illinois and Rockford “Roc” Hargis of Charleston; four grandchildren, Nathan T. Hargis and wife Shannon, Steve Hargis and wife Tanya, Jeremy Hargis, and Roxanne Murphy and husband Chris; numerous great-grandchildren; and her brother, Tom Johns of Charleston. Jeanne was also preceded by a brother, Tony Johns.

Jeanne, also known as “Tead”, a nickname given to her by her first husband, was a former member of East Harrison Street Church of God and eventually placed membership with the Enon Baptist Church family. She had formerly worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston before accepting a position at the Charleston Community Hospital and later at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in the purchasing department.

Jeanne was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. As a result of growing up during the Great Depression, she was frugal and knew the value of a dollar. She was resourceful and determined in spirit, always making certain that her family was well cared for. She enjoyed woodworking, possessed artistic ability and was known to be a good cook and seamstress. She shared a love for motorcycles with her husband Willford and they enjoyed many outings together on the bike. Her family will always cherish their many fond memories.
