James R. “Jimbob” Orndorff, age 39, of Camargo, IL (formerly of Villa Grove, IL) passed away at 11:57 p.m. following bypass surgery on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born December 12, 1984 in Urbana, IL, the son of Debbie Ann (Jayne) Adkins and Robert Ray Orndorff.
Survivors include his mother, Debbie of Ashmore, IL; father, Robert Ray of Decatur, IL; in his words, “stisters”, Christina Adkins of Robinson, IL, Amanda Adkins (Kenny Ballew) of Robinson, IL, and Jamie Gent (Leslie) of Villa Grove, IL; maternal grandmother, Patty Jayne of Camargo, IL; half-sisters, Monica Orndorff of Danville, IL, Bobbi Orndorff of New York; several nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leonard Jayne; paternal grandmother, Delcia Mae Adkins; sister, Peggy Sue Orndorff; and “dad”, Henry Adkins.
Jimbob attended Villa Grove Schools. He was currently a manager in training at Burger King in Tuscola, IL. His extensive employment history includes Master Brand Cabinets in Arthur, IL, FedEx, Stephens Hog Farm in Annapolis, IL, and several restaurants. Jimbob also volunteered as a fireman for Metcalf Fire Department.
Passionate about metallurgy, swords, and the art of winemaking, Jimbob was a man of many talents. His thirst for knowledge and love for animals and horticulture were matched only by his profound interest in medieval times, Vikings, and the splendor of Greek and Roman eras. A man of vivid imagination, he found solace in the pages of books and the pursuit of wisdom. Jimbob’s love for family was immense. He was always friendly and never met a stranger, everyone was his friend.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, IL with Pastor Phillip Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow service in Tate Cemetery in Bogota, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL.
