Horace "Pat" Andrews Obituary

CHARLESTON – Horace “Pat” Andrews, age 89 of Charleston and formerly of Tuscumbia, Alabama passed away in the comfort of his home in the loving presence of family on Saturday, September 5, 2020.  His family will celebrate his life with a Visitation and Memorial Service to be held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at East Harrison Street Church of God located at 17996 East Harrison Street Road in Charleston.    The Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Inurnment with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.  Memorials in his honor may be made to Hines Fisher House, 5000 S. 5th Avenue, Hines, Illinois 60141, or East Harrison Street Church of God and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Horace Douglass Andrews, affectionately known as Pat, was born December 2, 1930 in Colbert County, Alabama, the son of the late William Oscar and Angie Gladys (Burcham) Andrews.  He married Theresa Rosales, and the mother of his children, on September 8, 1951 in Chicago, and she preceded him death on July 19, 1992.  He later married Mary Kathleen (Davis) Bute on November 19, 1994 in Flora, Illinois and she survives.  In addition to Kate, his devoted wife of nearly 26 years, left to cherish their many fond and loving memories are his children, Kathleen Bates and husband Robert of Charleston, Robert Andrews and wife Kathleen of Orland Park, Illinois, Joseph Andrews and wife Julie of Charleston, Patricia Kelliher and husband Jim, also of Orland Park; ten grandchildren, Christopher Bates, Mark (Carolyn) Bates, Katie Bates, Brian Bates, Theresa Bates, Jack Andrews, Jonah Andrews, Renee Kelliher, Olivia Kelliher and Fiona Andrews.  He also leaves two brothers, Harold “Bud” Andrews of Elgin, Illinois and James Loren Andrews of Streamwood, Illinois; and three sisters, Helen Scharf of Fresno, California, Hazel Reaves of Tuscumbia, Alabama and Hilda Pochay of Harrisburg, Illinois.  Pat’s marriage to Kate has also blessed him with an extended family: step-children, Robb Bute and wife Sarah, John Bute and wife Nicole and Phillip Bute and wife Staci; step-grandchildren, Robert (Nadie) Bute, Jr., Keo (Mandy) Bute, Logan Bute, Ava Bute, Abby Bute, Andie Bute, Hannah Howe, Emma Bute, Ethan Doud, Casey Bute, Natalie Dodge, Elijah Dodge and Logan Dodge; and step-great-grandchildren, Zeadan, Kage and River Bute and Philip and Aelin Howe.  In addition to his parents and first wife, Theresa, Pat was preceded in death by a brother, Herschel Andrews and a sister Reba Andrews. 

Pat was a graduate of Deshler High School in Tuscumbia and furthered his education at Robert Morris Jr. College in Chicago.  He moved to Chicago in 1949 where he met and married Theresa and where they remained and raised their family.  He honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War as a front line surgical technician.  Pat was employed as a salesman in the graphic printing industry, retiring in 1991. 

Pat’s faith journey began at the age of 10 when he was saved.  He has been blessed to be a member of the East Harrison Street Church of God family since 1995.

Pat loved the outdoors and activities such as hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.  He was always quick to share his garden produce and enjoyed visiting with those who received it.  He always delighted spending time with family, especially his grandchildren who provided him with an abundance of joy.  Pat will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
