Hattie A. Hughes, 69 of Charleston, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, May 4, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island, Illinois. Burial will be held at 11:30 AM in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials in her honor may be made to the VFW Post #1592, Charleston and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, Illinois 61920.
Hattie was born May 20, 1953 in Rock Island, Illinois the daughter of James Leo and Elene Joy (Puscas) Hughes II. She is survived by her two children, Mechelle (Joe) Hess, and Ray (Jessica) Cobert both of Charleston, Illinois; four grandchildren, Julia Hess, Ben Hess, James Hess, and Claire Cobert; 12 siblings, Connie Rowland, James (Kaye) Hughes II, Michael (Debbie) Hughes, Patricia Young, Christine (Tim) Moore, Kevin Hughes, Nora (John) Naab, Mary West, Kathleen (Johnny) McGinnis, Frank Hughes, Zachary (Cindy) Hughes, and Kelley (Ken) Eitenmiller; and one sister-in-law, Cindy Hughes. She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Richard Hughes and Rita DeRue; brother-in-law, Bob Rowland; and sister-in-law, Karen Hughes.
Hattie was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the VFW Post #1592 in Charleston. She was a great storyteller who loved the game Chance and enjoyed time spent at home. Her family was her world and she loved the time spent with her grandchildren and family.
