Evelyn J. (Irby) Kemp

Evelyn J. Kemp, 98, of Charleston, Illinois formerly of Seattle, Washington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, Illinois.  Adams Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Evelyn was born on May 25, 1924, in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel and Hazel (Warren) Irby.  She is survived by three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Lester McGinness and Larry McGinness; and brother, Richard (Retha) Irby.  

Evelyn was an avid member of the First Christian Church in Charleston where she later became Deacon. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge for over 82 years, the Woman’s Relief Corps serving as past President of the State of Washington, and past president of the Royal Neighbors of America. In Evelyn’s spare time she enjoyed collecting angels.
