CHARLESTON, IL – Eugenia C. Pendergast, 92, of Charleston, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Villas of Holly Brook in Charleston, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 18, 2022, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery. Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or Lincolnland Hospice (Hospice House) and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Eugenia was born October 7, 1929, in Ashmore, Illinois the daughter of Loney and Lilly (Day) Centers. She married John William “Bill” Pendergast on November 20, 1948, in Charleston, Illinois. Bill preceded her on September 20, 2015. She is survived by her three children, Mike Pendergast of Charleston, Illinois, Althea Pendergast (Dave Myerscough) of Charleston, Illinois, and Kelly (Jeff) Miller of Charleston, Illinois; six grandchildren, Ian (Danielle) Pendergast-White, Sierra Pendergast-White, Noah Miller (Ivy Nichols), Ethan Miller, McClain Miller, and Isaac Miller; and two great-grandchildren, John William Pendergast-White, and Shiloh Miller. Eugenia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Eugenia graduated from Charleston High School. She was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Eugenia spent her time gardening, playing cards, and working on the farm with her husband Bill. She would enjoy spending her time watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports. Most importantly she had a love for cooking which led to hosting many family gatherings. Times like these are going to be greatly missed.
In addition to helping Bill on the farm Eugenia spent many years as a tax consultant. In later years she worked at the US Farm Service Agency full time. Well into her 80’s she worked part-time at the Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Service.
