Elaine K. Hood

CHARLESTON, IL – Elaine Kay Hood, age 75 of Downers Grove, Illinois and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 in the comfort of her daughter’s home.  A private viewing for family will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel.  Graveside Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Roselawn Cemetery with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be made to the Oakland School District Library, the Oakland Hindsboro Charitable Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Church, and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, Illinois  61920.

Elaine was born January 4, 1945 in Danville, Illinois, a daughter of the late Daniel Wendle and Fern (Buckellew) Grady.  Surviving is a devoted and loving daughter, Jodie Andrys and her husband Tom of Downers Grove, Illinois; three grandchildren, Elaina Rae (Laney) Andrys, Thomas James (T.J.) Andrys, and Cameran Jane Andrys; her brother, James Daniel Grady and wife Gini of St. Petersburg, Florida; a nephew Danny Grady; and her close longtime friend, Nancy Meese of Ashmore.  She was also preceded in death by a niece, Tracey Grady.

Elaine was a 1963 graduate of Danville High School and attended Danville Community College following graduation.  She later transferred to Eastern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in 1967 and also went on to earn a Master’s Degree from E.I.U.  Mrs. Hood was a beloved elementary school teacher and dedicated educator in the Oakland School District for 40 years.  Elaine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston and a former member of Alpha Delta Kappa Professional Teaching Sorority.

Elaine’s love for her family was steadfast and the special affection she felt for her grandchildren was immeasurable.  She was a constant in their lives that will truly be missed, and the many memories of special times shared will be treasured by those that loved her.
