Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Edith Ann Jones, age 81 of Charleston and formerly of Clinton, Illinois, passed away in the comfort of her home with loving family at her side on Sunday, February 16, 2020.  Her family will host a celebration of her life on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1100 E. Northline Road, Tuscola, Illinois.  She will be inurned at the VA Cemetery in Danville, Illinois at a later time.  Memorial gifts may be made to Lincolnland Hospice and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Ann was born September 7, 1938 in Clinton, Illinois a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Marcella Sarah (Peters) Workman.  On April 12, 1958, she became the wife of Oscar D. Jones and they have shared nearly 62 years of marriage.  In addition to her loving and devoted husband, she is survived by five children, David Jones and wife Melissa of Newton, Illinois, Michele Ogle and husband Bruce of Ashmore, Illinois, Jeffrey Jones of Charleston, Lisa Lewis and husband Rod of Charleston, and Marcella Pavlovsky and husband Tom of Sierra Vista, Arizona.  Ann is also blessed with eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Workman of Springfield, Illinois and Mike Workman and wife Cheryl of Clinton, Illinois; along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Ann was preceded by one grandchild; two brothers, George Melvin Workman and John Edward “Jack” Workman; and a sister, Lois Hale.

Ann was a 1956 graduate of Clinton High School.  She kept the outpatient surgery department at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center running smoothly for more than 20 years as their highly organized registration clerk.  She and Oscar attended Home Church (formerly Salisbury) in Charleston.

Ann loved several forms of needlework with hardanger embroidery being among her favorites.  She was an avid reader, watcher of old western movies and television shows, and enjoyed teaching country and western dancing.  There were many memorable family camping trips and she could often be found in front of the television cheering for her beloved St. Louis Cardinals or Fighting Illini teams.  She was a big supporter of her children and grandchildren and attended their sporting events or other activities whenever possible.  Ann was blessed with the love and devotion of her husband, children, grandchildren and other extended family and friends who will always cherish their many memories.
