Doris Ione Steinmetz

CHARLESTON, IL – Doris Ione Steinmetz, 94, of Charleston and formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston with Rev. Tom Corum officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time on Saturday.  Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in Charleston.  Memorials in her honor may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Doris was born on September 3, 1927, the daughter of Fred and Verna Hamer. She married Marion Lee Steinmetz in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1950, and he preceded her in passing on January 10, 2013. She is survived by her son, Dr. Samuel Steinmetz of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Dr. Julia Steinmetz, Dr. Jamie (Marco) Steinmetz, and Lindsay (Brad) Steinmetz, RN; and four great-grandchildren, Connor Diebold, Chloe Diebold, Teo Galvan, and Leo Galvan. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Dr. William Steinmetz.

Doris attended Hutchinson High school and continued her education at Hutchinson Junior College where she graduated with an associate’s degree. She then furthered her education at Eastern Illinois University where she attained her Bachelors of Arts and then her Masters of Arts. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, and her church life was very important to her. She was also a member of the Sacred Harp-Choir Group. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading, and singing. She loved to help the elderly and most importantly loved to spend time with her family.
