David A. Pooley

1952 - 2021

CHARLESTON, IL – David Allan Pooley, age 69 of Charleston, and formerly of Peotone, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021.  No services are scheduled at this time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in David’s honor may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, Illinois 61920.

David was born on February 23, 1952, in Kankakee, Illinois, a son of the late Harold and Mary (Morrison) Pooley.  He was a graduate of Peotone High School in Peotone, Illinois.  He furthered his education at Joliet Junior College and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University.  He was formerly an art instructor at E.I.U. and the registrar for the Tarble Arts Center on the EIU Campus.

David married Kelsey Hyland on June 3, 1995.  In addition to Kelsey, his devoted wife of 26 years, he is survived by his children, Apryl Pooley of Lansing, Michigan, Ben Pooley and Maddy Pooley, both of Charleston.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Pooley.

David’s creativity was displayed through his art, and he enjoyed inspiring and teaching the younger generation of artists.  He was a collector of antique toys and his love for music was heard through his guitar or some good old “rock and roll” music which he often had playing.  David appreciated the wonder and beauty of nature as seen in the colorful flowers, or the audible echoes of the songbirds.  David liked participating in a good conversation and never met anyone that he could not talk with.   His family and friends will miss his daily presence in their lives and will hold fast to their many precious and loving memories.

I grew up with Kong in the early years being born 9 days apart to best friends.  He grew up to be a very kind and free spirited kid throughout his childhood.  I think I can easily say that all that knew him at PHS loved him and all of him.  Rest in Peace Kong.  You were loved.

Dave "Kong", was always a pleasure. Lotsa laughs and lotsa mischief. He painted a wall mural at my house also, Dave once did me a favor that no man could ever repay. Godspeed, Kong. .

I grew up with Dave in Peotone, such a great person. He painted a wall in my apartment with a very "intersting" mural. 😎 I'll cherish fond memories with Dave and my condolences to the family.
