David was born on February 23, 1952, in Kankakee, Illinois, a son of the late Harold and Mary (Morrison) Pooley. He was a graduate of Peotone High School in Peotone, Illinois. He furthered his education at Joliet Junior College and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University. He was formerly an art instructor at E.I.U. and the registrar for the Tarble Arts Center on the EIU Campus.
David married Kelsey Hyland on June 3, 1995. In addition to Kelsey, his devoted wife of 26 years, he is survived by his children, Apryl Pooley of Lansing, Michigan, Ben Pooley and Maddy Pooley, both of Charleston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Pooley.
David’s creativity was displayed through his art, and he enjoyed inspiring and teaching the younger generation of artists. He was a collector of antique toys and his love for music was heard through his guitar or some good old “rock and roll” music which he often had playing. David appreciated the wonder and beauty of nature as seen in the colorful flowers, or the audible echoes of the songbirds. David liked participating in a good conversation and never met anyone that he could not talk with. His family and friends will miss his daily presence in their lives and will hold fast to their many precious and loving memories.
