Dale Cassiday Obituary

ASHMORE – Dale E. Cassiday, age 76 of Ashmore, took the hand of Jesus and followed Him home on Saturday, August 22, 2020 while at home with his wife and daughters by his side.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with a Prayer Service at the close of visitation.   The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2020 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8975 E County Road 1200 N, Mattoon, Illinois, with Reverend Willie Grills officiating.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Ashmore Cemetery in Ashmore.  Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.

Dale was born in Charleston, Illinois on February 7, 1944 to the late Herman and Verna (Bloxom) Cassiday.  He was the second born of seven children and was preceded in death by four of his siblings.

Dale attended school in Charleston prior to enlisting into the U.S. Army.  While in the service, Dale served in Korea during peace time and actively fought during the Vietnam War.  After his time in the military, Dale worked for Young Radiator in Mattoon as a welder for 17 years.  He eventually found a career that he enjoyed as an over the road truck driver for 26 years.

Dale was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located northeast of Mattoon in Dorans, Illinois.  He was also a lifetime member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592.  He was typically known to be a quiet guy and always willing to help anyone if he could.  He was also known to give his loved ones a hard time.  He loved teasing his wife and when she would ask if he was proud of himself, he simply responded, “Yep, I’m sitting on my hands to keep from clapping for myself”.  He was extremely quick-witted and never sure of what trouble his mouth might get him into.  He enjoyed fishing especially with his buddies at Lake Charleston near their river cabins.  Dale also loved watching old western movies and television shows and enjoyed his likeness to George Jones!  Dale will always be remembered as a loving and caring man who was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Dale leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Luann (Meier) Cassiday; his four daughters, Kandi Cassiday (Ron Cadwalader) of Kansas, Illinois; Beth (Brian) Darby of Williamston, South Carolina, Kristi (Charlie) Foerster of Charleston, Illinois, and Tammy (Sid) Acord of Ashmore, Illinois; six grandchildren, Shawn Paul, Alex and Brooklynn Darby, Ethan Foerster, and Chaz and Blake Acord; two sisters, Gayla (Steven) Robinson of Ashmore, Illinois and Wanita (Noel) Hubbard of Bedford, Indiana.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Ricky Cassiday, Gary Cassiday, Jay Cassiday, and Donna Higa.
