Crystal Rennels Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Crystal Louise Rennels, age 92 of Charleston, Illinois passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, July 29, 2021, while at the Odd Fellow Harmony Center in Mattoon.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 Madison Avenue in Charleston, with Father Braden Maher officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana.  In lieu of flowers gifts in her honor may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Crystal was born on February 16, 1929, in Drumright, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lester and Ethel (Bly) Thompson.  She married Forrest Kinsel and following his death she married Morris E. Rennels on April 13, 1991.  He preceded her in death on February 17, 2004.  She is survived by her children, Everal Kinsel and wife Cheri of Charleston, Illinois, and Myra Higgins and her husband Jim of Margate, Florida; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.  She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Marcia Cox and husband Mick of Collinsville, Illinois and a step-daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Rennels of Charleston; along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and both husbands, Crystal was preceded in death by her brother, Everal Thompson and a stepson, Larry Rennels.

Crystal was a graduate of Newton High School in Newton, Illinois and was a member of the Altar Society.  She was a devout woman of faith and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston.  When able, she devoted her time to various church ministries.  Crystal enjoyed traveling in her younger years, but mostly dedicated her life to taking care of her family and others.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put the needs of her family first.  Crystal was a loving woman with a heart full of forgiveness, never holding a grudge or speaking ill of others.  She will always be fondly and lovingly remembered for her kindness and her sweet and gentle spirit.
