Clifford Lee Thomas, Jr., age 76, of Charleston, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 12:25 a.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born January 18, 1947 in Charleston, IL, the son of Clifford Lee Thomas, Sr. and Iris Imogene (Adkins) Thomas. On June 13, 1981 he married Marilyn Loew in Hillsboro, IL.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-two years, Marilyn Thomas of Charleston, IL; children, Phillip Thomas and wife Tonya of Rogersville, AL, Tammy Pennington and husband Bill of Inverness, FL, Darrel Thomas and wife Stephanie of Citrus Springs, FL, and Shelly Reiss of Watson, IL; grandchildren, Marley Thomas of Decatur, IL, Ryan Thomas of HI, Sean Thomas of Rogersville, AL, Andrew Mitchum of MI, Ethan Thomas of Citrus Springs, FL, Christi Devore and husband Jacob of Herrick, IL, Brianna Apke and husband Aaron of Wheeler, IL, Katlyn Winnett of Mason, IL, and Dalton Reiss of Watson, IL; five step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Clifford was a 1966 graduate of Charleston High School. He attended Lake Land College before starting his career as a bus driver for the Charleston School District, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed collecting coins, collecting and making marbles, and antiquing. Clifford loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and fishing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Rev. Walter Miller. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL.
