Carolyn Brown Obituary

TERRE HAUTE, IN – Carolyn Brown, age 80, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Union Hospital, surrounded by her children and her husband.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.  The funeral service, celebrating her life, will begin at noon on Thursday at the funeral chapel with burial to follow in Mound Cemetery, Charleston.  While not a requirement the family would appreciate those attending wear a mask if able.  Memorials in Carolyn’s honor may be made to any local animal shelter.

Carolyn was born in Charleston, Illinois on April 9, 1940, a daughter of the late Dale and Thelma (Toops) Keigley.  She was preceded by five of her siblings, Sharon (Robert) Kellner, Naomi (Carl) Butler, Jane (Randall) Potter, Sherry Roberts and Fred Keigley; and a brother-in-law, Truman Kerns.  Carolyn married Harry (Bud) Walden in 1955 and she is survived by their children, Brenda Ingle and Bryan Walden and wife Bronda of Charleston; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Laura Janes) Ingle, Christopher (Laura Cohoon) Ingle, Nick (Carrie) Walden, Kari Walden; and one great-grandchild, Liam Ingle.  Carolyn is also survived by a sister, Kathleen (Kate) Kerns; a brother, Larry (Lana) Keigley; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Following Bud’s death in 1974, Carolyn married Robert W. Wright and they shared 20 years of marriage prior to his death in 1996.  She is survived by Robert’s family whom she loved as her own: stepchildren, Stephen Wright, Christopher (Sandy) Wright, Jane (Jim) Nunn, and Lori Wright; step-grandchildren, Alarik (Megan) Wright, Callie (Brian) Jenkins, Andy Wright, Kendall Landis, Kasey Landis; and six step great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was united in marriage with Donald G. Brown in 2002 and they have been blessed with 18 years of marriage.  She is also survived by Don’s family whom she also loved; stepchildren, Lorre (Ron) Thompson, Phillip (April) Brown, and Holly Brown; step-grandchildren, April Anderson, Crystal Thompson and Parker Brown; and three step great-grandchildren.

When living in Charleston, Carolyn attained her Associates Degree from Lake Land College and was employed at the Charleston Brown Shoe Company and later at Mattoon General Electric.  She was a mortgage processor/closer and held various clerical positions through the years.  Her most recent employment was as Administrative Assistant at First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Terre Haute.

Carolyn was a member of the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in Terre Haute where she was actively involved with the Yarn Spinners and also with the Knit Wits at Memorial Methodist Church, which are both yarn ministry groups.  She enjoyed the friendship of her fellow members of the Les Chapeaux Rouge de Terre Haute Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and fellow square dancers of the Swinging Mates Square Dance Club of which she and Don were members.  Through the years, Carolyn had several cats that she loved dearly, enjoyed gardening and worked with stained glass as a hobby.

Carolyn was content with her life and felt that her biggest and most important accomplishment was raising her children.  She was loved by many people and she loved them in return.  Her family was the greatest recipient of that love as they were nearest and dearest to her heart.  Carolyn would want her friends and family to know that she had a good life filled with an abundance of blessings and is now at peace.
