Carol L. Morgan Cooper, age 81, of Charleston, IL passed away at 9:19 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. Carol was born on November 23, 1941 in Charleston, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Avis Elston and raised by Pierce and Alice Ashmore. On November 19, 2016 she married John T. Cooper at Salisbury Church in Charleston, IL.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of six years, John Cooper of Charleston, IL; children, Christa Gard (Terry) of Martinsville, IL, Gerald Morgan II (Jennie) of Ashmore, IL, Carina Winkleblack (Paul) of Ashmore, IL, and Clinton Morgan (Tamara) of Ashmore, IL; stepchildren, Jerry Cooper of Oviedo, FL, David Cooper of Parsons, WV, and Michael Cooper (Debbie) of Dry Fork, WV; foster sister-in-law, Doris Ashmore of Oakland, IL; and foster brother-in-law, Dick Ashmore (Mary) of Charleston, IL; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her biological and foster parents, former husband, Gerald “Jady” Morgan, and foster brother, Max Ashmore.
Carol was a 1959 graduate of Charleston High School. She was a homemaker to her husband and four children. After raising her children, she worked as a cashier at Charleston Walmart for eleven years. She previously was employed as a cook at Richards Farm in Casey, IL and as a cashier at IGA in both Moweaqua, IL and Neoga, IL. Carol enjoyed traveling with her husband. She loved pigs, watching hummingbirds, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She was a member of Salisbury Church in Charleston, IL.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, IL with Pastor Michael Stewart and Pastor Ray Finney officiating.
