CHARLESTON, IL – Brett Dunkirk Bennett, age 40, was at his Charleston residence when he left this earthly home for his heavenly home on Sunday, March 15, 2020. His visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with Reverend Tom Corum officiating. Inurnment will be private in the Winkleblack Cemetery, a family cemetery in Morgan Township close to where Brett grew up. Memorials in his honor may be made to Jim or Dorothy Bennett to be used for the education of Brett’s children. They may be left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Brett was born on August 20, 1979 in Lafayette Township, Illinois. He was married to Jennifer Roewe and they were blessed with two children. Surviving are Brett’s parents, Jim and Dorothy (Dunkirk) Bennett of Charleston; his children, Rory and Morgan Bennett of Spring Hill, Florida; a brother, Alex (Heather) Bennett and their children, Asher and Conner of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Kelly (Mike) Spitzer and their children Chloe and Michael James (MJ) of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two aunts and their families, Judy (Phil) Goodman of Taylorville, Illinois and Janet Adkinson of Springfield, Illinois. He was preceded by his grandparents; an aunt, Virginia Williams and an uncle, Bob Dunkirk.
Brett was a 1997 graduate of Charleston High School and attended SIU Carbondale. He worked as a self-employed contractor. Brett grew up attending Wesley United Methodist Church and was blessed with compassion for others and a generous heart. His artistic ability was seen in the ceramic and pottery pieces he created and his love for the outdoors was experienced through activities such as canoeing and kayaking with friends. Brett’s children brought out the best in him and provided times filled with happiness and fond memories. He will always be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

The memorial service celebrating the life of Brett Bennett was held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Corum officiating. The eulogy was given by Brett's brother, Alex Bennett. Pianist, Ruth Ann Craig provided prelude and postlude selections and accompanied the congregation hymns of "Morning has Broken" and "Lord of the Dance" A recorded selection of "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley was also played. A private burial attended by his family followed in Winkleblack Cemetery in Morgan Township.
