Brenda Joyce (Dunning) Garza

Brenda Joyce Garza, age 74, Charleston, IL passed away at 1:54 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL.  She was born June 29, 1948 in Charleston, IL, the daughter of Robert T. Dunning and Beverly J. (Davis) Dunning.  On November 4, 2007 she married Fernando Chaves Garza in Trenton, Michigan.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of fifteen years, Fernando Garza; daughters, Lisa Bowlin of Charleston, IL, Robin Murdock of Columbus, OH, Kandi Cassiday and significant other Ron Cadwalder of Kansas, IL, Sara Baker and husband Lou of Rantoul, IL; son, David Garza and wife Raffi of Rockwood, MI; grandchildren, Michael Rogers of Atwood, IL, Matthew Rogers and wife Megan of Gays, IL, Shawn Paul of Plover, WI, Rachel Murdock of Columbus, OH, Enzo Garcia of Ecorse, MI, and Addie Baker of Rantoul, IL; great granddaughters, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, IL, Scarlett Rogers of Gays, IL, and Hazel Rogers of Gays, IL; brothers, Michael Dunning and wife Debbie of Ashmore, IL, Bob Dunning and wife Marcia of Charleston, IL, and David Dunning of Charleston, IL; several nieces and nephews; and a very special great nephew, Carter Boyer.  Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Beverly Dunning.

Brenda was a graduate of Charleston High School.  She retired in 2003 from General Electric in Mattoon, IL as a manufacturing line worker.  Brenda was a member of the Moose Lodge #1175 in Charleston, IL.  Brenda loved spending time with her family, collecting clowns, and making tamales. She also enjoyed playing bingo, yard sale shopping, crocheting, and was an avid bowler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Walters officiating.  Private family burial will be held at a later date.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL.
