Betty R. (Cooley) Brown

Betty R. Brown, 100, of Charleston, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service with Pastor Rena Whitcher presiding. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, Illinois.  Memorials in Betty's honor may be made to the VFW in Charleston.  Gifts may be left at the service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Betty was born on February 22, 1922 in Charleston, Illinois the daughter of Vivia R. Cooley and Gladys Ruth (Hepner) Cooley Coffell. She married William A. Brown on January 18, 1941 in St. Charles, MO, and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1998. She is survived by three children, Vickie (Gary) Thompson, William Edward (Pam) Brown, and Dede (George) Heintz; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 17 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Carolyn J. “Bullock” Cooley-Brown and her infant daughter, Patty Ann Brown; one sister, Anna Mae Nickell; and one brother, Bill Cooley.

Betty was a hard worker who had worked at many businesses in the area throughout her life. She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Charleston #1592, a charter member of the Creative Quilters in Homosassa, FL, and a member of the Central Christian Church in Charleston, IL.  After living 20 years in Florida, Betty moved back to Illinois to be closer to family. Her love for family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren was very dear to her heart. Her hobbies included quilting and bingo (which she often won!). Betty will be missed by all who knew her.
