August 29, 1977 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 43)

CHARLESTON, IL – On Sunday, July 11, 2021, at the age of 43, following a six-year battle with cancer, Christopher Lee Cox’s passing was bookended by double rainbows over the family farm.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Home Church, 2350 Madison Avenue in Charleston.  The Funeral Service, honoring and celebrating his life, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Home Church with Pastor Scott Sims officiating.  Burial will follow at Enon Cemetery located in Ashmore Township.  Memorials may be made to Cox Farms to be used for swine barn improvements at the Coles County Fairgrounds and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Chris was born August 29, 1977, in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Connie and Rayanna (Lawson) Cox.  He graduated Charleston High School in 1996.  Dialing a wrong number connected him with the love of his life and future bride, Amanda Schrock, and they were married October 27, 2007, at Salisbury Church.  Chris’s roots were deeply planted in the family farm in Hutton Township where he grew up and where he and Amanda chose to live and raise their family, Bailey, Clara, Ethan, Raylin and Lynlee.  In addition to his wife and children, Chris is also survived by his mother, Rayanna Cox and sister, Amanda Cox, and her husband Jason Jones.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Chris loved his Hutton Township home and the family farm.  He enjoyed tending to the livestock as well as planting the seed, that with his care along with God’s gift of warm sun and gentle rains, would result in a bountiful harvest.  His love for growing things extended to his garden and his family anticipates very soon to be enjoying this year’s watermelons, green beans, and tomatoes - hopeful this might be his best crop yet!

Chris was a member of Home Church in Charleston.  He was also a Coles County Farm Bureau member, 4-H Swine Superintendent, a lifelong 4-H member, and a huge fan of Chicago Bears football.  His outdoor activities also included hunting and fishing and he especially liked to coon hunt.  He served his fellow Hutton Township residents as a volunteer with the Hutton Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Chris proudly carried on the Cox family tradition as one who never knew a stranger.  He could literally carry on a conversation with anyone, and it was always accompanied with his smile and laughter mixed with his usual lighthearted and dry sense of humor that could light up a room!  Chris maintained that sense of humor, teasing and laughing with his children even through his final days.

Chris loved his family and friends, and he was loved in return.  His devotion to his family was expressed through his unconditional love, support, and encouragement which he gave to them as a husband, father, son, and brother. He enjoyed cheering on his children during their ballgames and was their biggest fan on and off the field.  Chris was all this and so much more and will be dearly missed and always lovingly remembered by his family and wealth of friends.
